  1. GLE is a hi quality graphics package for scientists.  GLE
  2. combines a user friendly interface with a full range of
  3. facilities for producing publication quality graphs, diagrams,
  4. posters and slides.  GLE runs on PC's, VAXes and Unix.
  5.  
  6. It provides LATEX quality fonts together with a flexible 
  7. graphics module which allows the user to specify any feature 
  8. of a graph (down to the line width of the subticks for example)
  9.  
  10. Complex pictures can be drawn with user defined subroutines and 
  11. simple looping structures.
  12.  
  13. The SURFACE utility allows hidden line surface plotting.
  14.  
  15. The CONTOUR utility allows contour plots. 
  16.  
  17. The MANIP utility allows columns of data to be manipulated.
  18.  
  19. The FITLS utility allows arbitrary equations to be fitted to 
  20. data.
  21.  
  22. Current device drivers support XWindows, REGIS, TEK4010, all PC 
  23. graphics cards, VT100's, HP-Plotters, PostScript Printers, EPSON 
  24. Printers and LaserJet/Paintjet Printers.

  26. GLE runs on VAX-VMS, UNIX and PC's, giving a near identical user interface
  27. on all platforms.

  36. The gle installation files are split into 4 zip files:
  37.  
  38.     GLE33b_1.ZIP    Core GLE, with PC - screen driver
  39.     GLE33b_2.ZIP    PostScript Driver, and Expanded Memory versions
  40.     GLE33b_3.ZIP    Bitmap device drivers (epson) and extra fonts.
  41.     GLE33b_4.ZIP    Utilities, surface plotting, hpgl driver.
  42.     
  43. Use PKUNZIP.EXE to extract the installation kit from these
  44. files, you don't need all four, just the ones you want to use.

  61. C:\TMP> del gle33b_*.zip        ! delete uploaded files to save space
  62.     (You MUST copy PKUNZIP.EXE to the same directory so 
  63.     that INSTALL.EXE can find it)
  64. C:\TMP> copy \zip\pkunzip.exe    ! change \zip\ to where you keep pkunzip.exe
  65.     (These files could now be copied to floppies for installation
  66.     on other PC's)
  67. C:\TMP> install
  68.     (and answer idiot-proof questions!)

  70.         Please try and distribute GLE within your
  71.         area to avoid multiple transfers.

  75.     (pkunzip.exe)     Must be put with these files for INSTALL.EXE to work

  81.     GLE_XPC.ZIP    CGLE.EXE (Expanded memory version)
  82.     GLE_PS.ZIP    PostScript driver
  83.     GLE_XPS.ZIP    PostScript driver (Expanded memory version)
  84. GLE33b_3.ZIP contains
  85.     GLE_BIT.ZIP    Epson and Laserjet printers
  86.     GLE_FVE.ZIP    Complete set of font vector files
  87.     GLE_FMT.ZIP    Complete set of font metric files.
  88. GLE33b_4.ZIP contains
  89.     GLE_SUR.ZIP    Contour and Surface with hidden line removal
  90.     GLE_MAN.ZIP    Manip, data manipulation utility and FITLS
  91.     GLE_HP.ZIP     HPGL drivers
  92.  
  93. These files are usually split onto two 1.2Meg flopies for installation
  94. on multiple PC's.
